An Open Letter to the Foreign Minister of India about Passport Changes

One of readers sent us a Private message on our Facebook page sharing his open letter to the Minister of Externa Affairs of India, Sushma Swaraj concerning the recent news of changes in the passport. Asif

Asif shares his sentiments regarding the removal of the last page of the passport as well as the announcement of the issuance of blue and orange passports.

This last page includes the address and important names and would be used as identification when opening accounts. There has also been talks that the segregation of passports will elicity discrimination between workers when travelling abroad. Heere you can check the full open letter below:

I hope you will be successful. For many days I was thinking that I could write a letter to your name but could not write it. The intent of writing a letter is the pain of my heart, the Indian government has issued new rules on passports, from which emirate’s migrants are worried today. आदरणीय सुषमा स्वराज जी ,

आशा करता हूँ कि आप सकुशल होगी। कई दिन से मैं सोच रहा था कि आपके नाम एक खत लिखूं , लेकिन लिख नहीं पा रहा था। पत्र लिखने का आशय मेरे मन की पीड़ा है , भारतीय सरकार ने पासपोर्ट को लेकर नए नियमो को जारी किया है उनसे आज अमीरात के प्रवासी चिंतित हैं। 12 जनवरी को मीडिया बयान मे विदेश मंत्रालय ने पासपोर्ट के आखिरी पेज को समाप्त करने का फैसला लिया है। जिस पेज पर माता-पिता, पति-पत्नी के नाम होते थे और इसमें ही पुराने पासपोर्ट के नंबर शामिल होते थे ।पासपोर्ट से एड्रेस पेज को दूर करने से प्रवासी यह सवाल उठा रहे हैं की अब भारत में सिम कार्ड या ओपन बैंक खातों में आवेदन करने के लिए एनआरआई को क्या करना चाहिए।पिछले साल भारत सरकार ने यह भी घोषणा की थी कि एनआरआई आधार-भारत के बायोमेट्रिक पहचान पत्र के आवेदन के लिए योग्य नहीं है और ना ही अपने आधार विवरणों को पैन कार्ड से लिंक करने या उनके सिम कार्ड के साथ रजिस्टर कराने के योग्य है। पासपोर्ट से एड्रेस पेज को दूर करने से प्रवासी यह सवाल उठा रहे हैं की अब भारत में सिम कार्ड या ओपन बैंक खातों में आवेदन करने के लिए एनआरआई को क्या करना चाहिए इसके अलावा, भारतीय सरकार ने पासपोर्ट का रंग बदलने का फैसला भी लिया है। अब सिर्फ दो तरह के पासपोर्ट दिए जायेंगे एक नीले रंग का और एक नारंगी रंग का, “क्योंकि इससे एनआरआई के लिए गंभीर कठिनाई होंगी। यह नागरिकों को अलग करना उचित नहीं है, जो ईसीआर श्रेणी में और नारंगी पासपोर्ट में हैं, सरकार का दावा है कि नारंगी पासपोर्ट शोषण से श्रमिकों को बचाएगा लेकिन ऐसा नहीं है, वे विशेष रूप से अंतरराष्ट्रीय हवाई अड्डों पर भेदभाव के अधीन होंगे। दुबई निवासी भारतीय मूल की एस आसिफ़ इमाम कक़वि और एक अन्य सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता ने कहा की “आधार जब लागू किया गया था, मेरे परिवार और मुझे मिल गया था, मुझे मेरे साथ आधार रखने पर गर्व महसूस हो रहा है, क्योंकि यह मुझे पहचान का भाव देता है।
